Of the many temples in Khajuraho, the Lakshmana Temple and the Kandariya Mahadeva temple remain unparalled in their grandeur. The latter, dedicated to Lord Shiva, has a 38 metres high spire. The attempt to reconstruct the image of Shiva's home in Mount Kailasha is quite conspicuous here. The statue of an ascetic performing the shirshasan (a yogic posture where the yogi balances himself on his head) is a major attraction of this temple.
