The greatest of Mughal emperors, Akbar (1556-1605) built the present city
of Agra in 1566. Agra became a center of culture and scholarship, and served
as a seat of government for the Mughal Empire until 1648, when the emperor
Aurangzeb moved to Delhi.
Agra is world famous as the sight of the Taj Mahal, one of the seven
wonders of the world. Agra has several other fine examples of Indo-Saracenic
architecture. Spread over an area of 62 Km, Agra was once the capital of
India in 16th - 17th, Mughal Era. Agra, with its easy going lifestyle and
its huge wealth of architecture, handicrafts and jewelry, is one the most
outstanding cities of the world. In addition to Taj Mahal, Agra also boasts
of some of the other marvellous monuments of India - Agra Red Fort,
Itimad-Ud Daulah, Sikandra Dayal Bagh, Fatehpur Sikri and lots more. The
Jahangri Mahal, a palace of white marble constructed for the Mughal emperor
Akbar, and the Moti Masjid, also known as the Pearl Mosque, built during the
early part of the 17th century are some of the attractions at Agra.

Agra is a railway junction and a commercial center for the nearby
agricultural area. The city is largely involved in cotton, grain, tobacco,
salt, and sugar trade. Factories in Agra are engaged in food processing and
the production of cotton textiles, carpets, iron and steel and leather
items.

Delhi to Agra. Kheria Airport, Airport of Agra is about 6 km from the Agra
city centre and is easily accessible by taxis and auto-rickshaws at nominal

Agra is well connected by high quality train services to Delhi such as, the
Shatabdi Express (2 hrs), Taj Express (2.5 hrs), Intercity Express (3 hrs).
The city can also be visited by the Palace on Wheels, once in a week.
